How to Perfect the Dewy Skin Look
By: Gabriella Abreu
The dewy look is taking Instagram and all of pop culture by storm, with good reason. I’m sure you’ve seen this look and wondered, “how can skin glow like that?!” Healthy, youthful skin—it sounds like a dream. Dream no more, because I’m here to make it a reality! Follow the steps below and you’ll glow in no time!
Find a foundation for your skin type
“Luminous” Foundation
Super dewy! You can tell I really go in on that highlighter. It so much more fun!
Keep in mind that, when looking for the right dewy foundation, you should be aware of how your skin reacts to the product. For instance, a person with oily-prone skin might want to choose a matte foundation, and then add moisture back into the skin by using a setting spray. This will allow the product to stay on the skin and prevent oiliness. For those with normal skin, foundations marketed as “luminous” or “skin-like” typically work very well. Those with dryer skin can also use similar makeup as normal skin. Just make sure that the product doesn’t cling to dry spots!
Sephora has a quiz that matches you to the foundations with your desired finish and skin type, take it here.
Don’t forget concealer!
Finding the right concealer is very similar to finding the right foundation. For blemishes, I would recommend using a more matte finish product. The last thing you would want would be a glowing pimple!
To create that youthful glow under the eyes, the concealer should be brighter than your natural skin tone and have a light consistency. This combination helps liven up the skin and make it shine! To keep it natural looking, make sure to only go one or two shades lighter and use the product sparingly.
Use a Beauty Blender—but don’t swipe it!
The Beauty Blender is the single best invention in makeup application, apart from the eyelash curler. But, many people who have one aren’t using them to their full potential. It is important to DAB the product in, not swipe. It wipes off the product and doesn’t let it sink into the skin.
I usually take my time dabbing the whole face until it is fully blended because the base is the most important part of the makeup look. If the foundation of the makeup isn’t applied properly, the rest of the makeup will end up looking sloppy. Who wants that?
Lightly bake under the eyes
Because the baking process is a little tricky, I will go into more detail on how I apply this powder in another blog post. But, for now, I would say that baking is not the most important part of a dewy look. This process is usually used when trying to achieve a matte base. While this is true, using a smaller amount of powder just under the eyes does not drastically affect the overall makeup look. It is important to bake when using liquid concealer because it prevents the makeup from slipping off and creasing.
Highlight those high points!
Highlight is my favorite part of my makeup routine. For a natural look, apply this very lightly to the center of the nose and on the cheek bones. You can also apply a small amount to the center of the forehead, the inner corners of the eyes, under the arch of your brow, and on the chin. I also like to take whatever is left on the brush and bring it down onto the apples of my cheeks for a flirty look.
